Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

With regards,

FW: Database MDF File

Dear Damahe

Shuklendu phoned to say that he has listed only a few ( out of many ) discrepancies

He has been stressing these points repeatedly over the last 4 months , in each and every meeting !

This state of affairs is not only disappointing , it is frustrating

You are aware that , both Shuklendu and myself , have taken immense pains / interest to ensure that , under the able guidance of Shashank and Shivanand , the students come up with a final product that we can all be proud of

The very reason we gave a REAL LIFE project was to prepare the students for the ruthless  world of Business / Industry , where , bosses neither forget , nor forgive ! In case of doubt , ask my good old friend , VKM ( Magapu ) !

Out there , it is a “ Dog it Dog “ world , with no scope for any “ Sympathy “ !

I have been on LTIT Managing Council for 32 years , and still remember the time when the students and the Lecturers , together fabricated the TRUSS for the mechanical workshop , out of scrap I asked Powai Maintenance Dept to supply !

There was an urge to rise to the challenge !

I hope , it is still not too late for the current batch to emulate their predecessors of 30 years earlier , and launch both the web sites on 2 Oct

I await your response

hcp

Shivanand,

I looked at the database structure. It was VERY DISAPPOINTING. None of the suggestions that i have repeatedly made have been implemented.

To mention just a few of them,
1.  ID columns should be ‘Identity’
2.  Many tables don’t have ‘Primary Key’
3.  There are No Foreign Keys
4.  The column sizes are much higher than necessary, e.g. AgeFrom is Numeric(18,0), MailingListNM is Varchar(max), etc.
5.  Columns that are part of One-to-Many relationship exist both in header table and child table, e.g. B2B Mailing List table has CompanyID column

Such a database will be totally inadequate to handle the real life application.

Regards
Shuklendu Baji
