 Thank You, Shri Tarun Kapoorji

What for ?

For supporting my views

What views ?

Ø  Use tax as a tool to incentivise EVs and dis-incentivise Petrol / Diesel vehicles

Ø  Encouraging shift to Electricity for cooking

Where did he say this ?

India should expand use of electricity from renewable sources'  /  Eco Times  /  16 April 2022

Extract :

Ø  India should rapidly expand the use of electricity in its economy, mainly from renewable sources, to cut its vulnerabilities to global oil and gas price cycles, said Tarun Kapoor, the chief of petroleum and natural gas ministry's energy transitional panel.

Ø  The Committee is expected to submit a broader energy transition plan for the petroleum sector by June

Ø  “ The Government should work towards substantial electricity demand creation, especially in COOKING and TRANSPORT , which is where we could have a quick and direct shift from oil and gas “ , said Kapoor

Ø  “ We must use tax as a tool to incentivise EVs and dis-incentivize petrol and diesel vehicles. To begin with, we must target taxis. It makes immense economic sense to use EVs where daily travel comes to around 100 Km “, said Kapoor

Ø  “ For cooking, we should encourage shift to electricity at least in cities. Affluent middle class can use electricity for 20-30 % of its energy requirement for cooking – this would also be a great help in bringing down the consumption of LPG “ , said Kapoor

Ø  Increasing availability of Electric Kitchen Appliances , could act as a booster , he said

MY  TAKE :

Thank you, Shri Kapoor ,

You have hit the nail on the head !

My own identical suggestions on this can be found in my following e-mails :

Ø  FAME II > FAME III > FAME IV ……………………..[ 05 March 2019 ]

What would you recommend next ?

FAME  III  (  Apr  22  -  Mar 26  ) – 4 years

Ø  Total exemption of Corporate Income Tax for companies exclusively engaged in the manufacture of :

              #  Aluminium-Air Batteries

              #  Sodium-ion  Batteries

              #  Fuel Cell ( based on hydrolysis )

              #  Fast-charging batteries

Ø  Abolish Corporate Income Tax ( for 10 years ) for the entire  E Mobility Eco-System

Ø  Incentivizing the E Vehicle manufacturers

Based on car specifications / assumed average monthly usage  etc , figure out and fix

             *  " Carbon Credits " for each model of electric car manufactured

             *   Based on Carbon Credits earned , calculate Direct Transfer of Benefit ( DTB ) to electric

car manufacturers based on monthly dispatches of each model and then transfer these

amounts from EVFF ( Electric Vehicle Finance Fund ), as incentives to manufacturers

Ø  Dis-incentivize manufacturers for production of Petrol / Diesel vehicles

This could be achieved by gradually raising the GST rate for such vehicles, starting from April

2022and simultaneously gradual reduction in the GST rate for Electric vehicles
