Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

MAKING FACEBOOK AND GOOGLE ACCOUNTABLE

Dear Pranesh ,

Just read your following article in Hindustan Times :

In the end you write :

But privacy laws won’t suffice to make them accountable. No set of privacy defaults will fit the needs of over two billion users —“advanced” users can engage in privacy self-determination in a way that most average users can’t, since they will consent to anything.

To safeguard users’ privacy, we need to be able to move away from platforms like Facebook without losing access to their networks — similar to the way you can e-mail people using Yahoo Mail even if you use Gmail. And to enable that we need to focus on competition and platform openness, rather than privacy alone, which is leading to more closed platforms.

As far as “ moving away from platforms like Facebook “ is concerned, I have sent following emails to Cabinet Ministers / NITI Aayog / PM – EAC / PM-STIAC etc :

Slow and Steady ? Sure Way to Nowhere !

I would be happy to know what you think about my suggestion

With regards,
