Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Some IF / THEN Rules

Akshay / Rohit :

While going through my old notes , I came across my following , early stage “ criteria “ for deciding :

“ Shall I add this name / resume to our candidate database or reject it ? “

Reproduced below ( for whatever these thoughts are worth today )
===========================================
27  April  1990 ( 12 days after launch of 3P )

Criteria for FIRST STAGE ( from Company Annual Reports ) disqualification :

·         Over age / Superannuated ( > 58 years )
·         Underqualified    ( < Graduate )
·         Very Slow Growth
Very advanced age but very junior in hierarchy ( eg: Only an “ Asst Manager “ at age of 50 )
·         Rarely in demand
Eg: Medical Officer / Legal Officer / Security Officer
·         Non-technical / Non-professional
Eg: Secretary / PA / Executive Assistant
·         Very Senior Position
Eg: Chairman / MD / President
·         “ Owner “ of the Firm , OR , a member of holding FAMILY
Eg: “ Singhania S R ( M D ) of LML
·         Female
A woman is less likely to shift ( unless husband shifts )
Foreign Technician ( Collaborator’s man )

Expert System on “ PROGRESSION “

·         Hold one “ attribute “ as CONSTANT and thereafter , “ plot “  the  “ range “ of other attributes
Eg:
Take Industry as “ Automotive “
Then sort all “ General Managers “ ( Designation as a CONSTANT attribute )
Thereafter , prepare ( re-group / re-sort / re-arrange ) , several distinct lists of ALL these GMs, in the descending order of :
#    Age
#    Experience ( total )
#    Compensation
#    Edu Qualification

Program should provide for “ Sub Grouping “ ,  “ function wise “,
Eg:
A.1…All GM – Mfg / Operation / Production
A.2…All GM – Mkt / Sales / Service
A.3…All GM – Finance
A.4…All GM – Personnel / Administration
Next , pick all managers in same “ AGE GROUP “ ( say 45 – 50 ) – of course , in the SAME Industry – and re-arrange in descending order of :
#   Compensation
#   Designation
#   Experience
#   Edu Qualification….etc

Take an Industry ( eg: Automotive )
Pick a function ( eg; Manufacturing / Production ),

Then prepare “ Short lists “ of,

·         All VPs
·         All GMs
·         All DGMs
·         All  Mgrs
·         All  Asst Mgrs…etc

In the descending order of :

Either “ Age “ or “ Compensation “

With regards,

hcp
