Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

RE: L&T Switchgear for Sale

Dear Friends :

Even the doting parents who have nurtured a loving daughter for 25 years , must give her away in marriage , sometimes to a total stranger

Only thing they can do is to pray for her happiness at her “ sasural “ !

Just as we must accept ( gracefully or otherwise ) , the un-stoppable changes in our lives , we must learn to do likewise in our social / professional / economic / political lives

Even the “ inventor “ of PC , the invincible IBM had to sell off its PC business to the Chinese LENOVO !

A proof ( if one was required ) , of “ Kabe Arjun Lootiyo , Wohi Dhanush , Wohi Baan “  !

In today’s industrial world , a hundred such ( traumatic ? ) events are taking place on a daily basis

Warm Regards,

hcp

Dear friends,

Having seen switchgear business at L&T since 1957 let me share me share my views.

1. The large investment in heavy workshop was made possible from the profits earned by the switchgear business in the sixties.

2.  After Mr Gunnar Hansen left L&T in 1974, there was no Godfather for Switchgear in the company.

3.  The type of horizontal and vertical growth we witnessed in other groups, was not visible in switchgear.

4.  There are many businesses in which L&T has invested and losing money. L&T should get out of those before quitting from switchgear business. Most ( not all)  associate and subsidiary companies are losing money and they are being supported by the main L&T operations.

5.  The valuation at Rs 2,500 crores for turnover of approximately Rs 3,500 crores appears high. The assets and liabilities need to be studied in greater details.

I will not invest on the basis of sentiments.

Best regards,

Sat Goel

L&T Switchgear is up for sale for about Rs 2,500 crores.

Shouldn't ex-employees and current employees not form a company, contribute say Rs 10 lakhs each (25,000 employees) and buy out the Switchgear Business?
