Mr Johannes Caspar
Data Commissioner

Dear Sir,
I just came across following article in India’s Economic Times :
FB faces German Bid to halt WhatsApp Data Collection
At one place you are quoted ;
“ It is therefore all the more important to ensure that the high number of users which makes the sevice attractive to many people, does not lead to exploitation of data power “
I wish you luck with your efforts to halt WhatsApp data collection
But there are hundreds of Apps and websites, which collect PERSONAL / PRIVATE data of millions of users and then exploit those data to mint billions of dollars ( through outright sale of data or through targeted advts )
And soon millions of internet-connected devices will do the same ( Alexa , Siri , Google Assistant , AR-VR glasses etc )
It appears to be a futile / endless legal and regulatory battle
On the other hand, for several years now, I have been advocating with the Indian Government, a different approach, viz:
“ Make these Social Media pay / compensate the users for exploiting their däta “
In this context, my specific proposal can be found at :
Ø Not that I love WhatsApp less
Ø Digital Dividend from Demographic Data [ 4 D ]…………………….. [ 14 Feb 2019 ]
Ø SARAL ( Single Authentic
With regards,
Hemen Parekh
