Dear Dr Vivek Murthy ,

I just came across following news report :

WHO sets up panel to combat loneliness

  • Which reads :

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has appointed US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and African Union youth envoy Chido Mpemba as co-chairs of an international commission launched

by it to address the issue of loneliness — a pressing global health threat.

In a recently released report titled “Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation”, Murthy had stated that the mortality impact of being socially disconnected is like smoking up to 15 cigarettes a

day and even greater than that associated with obesity and physical inactivity.

-----------------------===================================

Fortunately , myself and my wife ( 90 and 86 ) , are lucky to be living with our children and a grand-daughter , in Mumbai . So , we are rarely lonely

But we know many friends / relatives and acquaintances , ( of our age ) , whose children are abroad and who have lost their spouses . They are terribly lonely and desolate

I have not read your book , “ Together – The healing power of Human Connection in a sometime lonely world “

I am sure , it must contain your suggestions on , how we , as a society can find “ ways to connect people “

But then , NGOs operating in this field can physically reach , only a handful of lonely persons

I have thought of employing TECHNOLOGY ( of internet / www ) to address this problem on a scale

I urge you to take out a few minutes from your busy schedule, to look up :
