Bhumika ,
Just came across following news reports :
120 books written by teachers to find place in 65,000 govt school libraries ………… TOI ……. 12 Aug 2024
Extract :
At least 120 books written by govt school teachers in Maharashtra
The state education department has set up a panel to pick the best literature written by school teachers on various topics including sports, poems, environment, and science, and written in English, Marathi, Hindi, and Urdu.
The panel set up by the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) will play a deciding factor.
The students studying from Std I to XII could take advantage of this initiative. The initiative started on a small scale in Marathi and Urdu received a good response.
Commissioner of education Suraj Mandhare [suraj.mandhare@outlook.com ] said ,
“It is part of the many measures we are taking for quality enhancement in our schools. So far, the focus has been on infrastructure, but now, we are slowly shifting to the quality of education. It begins with the enhancement for teachers. Creative engagement of teachers in activities beyond their normal work will fetch better results."
From this year, the initiative has been expanded and additions with Hindi and English language literature have been made.
Suhas Kendale, a zilla parishad teacher from the Pune district, said teachers have been adding to literature in short stories, small booklets, or a journal.
“Some poems written by teachers are circulated in schools and read out in classrooms. The state govt is giving these talented teachers a bigger platform to showcase their work and give them the due appreciation," he added.
A school without teacher? No, this one in Ghaziabad has no student
In the village of Chittora, Ghaziabad, a government primary school has not had regular students for years. Teachers arrive daily, note their attendance, and spend the day idly. Villagers prefer private schools due to safety concerns over the location. Despite efforts, the school remains underutilized, while other schools face teacher shortages.
Bhumika ,
I have no doubt , some of your teachers are highly talented and quite capable of writing books pertaining to subjects
taught in schools. These books would prove to be a valuable “ resource “ for the students who go to the library and
spend time searching for such books
In all probability , a few thousand students might benefit
But , as per Govt published data for 2022 , our SCHOOL EDUCATION SYATEM , consists of :
Ø 15 lakh schools ( of which , approx. 12 lakh are located in 6.4 lakh villages )
Ø 96 lakh teachers ( - and 10 lakh vacancies )
Ø 26 CRORE students
I urge that some of your teachers ( fully backed by your School Management ) , pool together their talents and come up
with a REPORT of the kind which I prepared some 40 years ago and sent a few hard copies to a few educationists /
policy makers .
Take a look at :
NEW EDUCATION POLICY / RESOURCE QUESTIONNAIRE ……….. 01 May 1984
