Re: Widget

Dear Mr Shuklendu,

Really nice to know you are tuning your web pages for enhancing its performance.

Pl let us know once your web site has been modified with' User id  and password ' instead of 'Mobile number and password'. For the job details, what is existing at present is fine with us.

For testing purpose, we will require a test  e-mail id & password.

Thanks & Regards
Revathi

Hello Revathi,

As you know, we have been tuning web site pages to improve the server response to the widget. We have made changes to all 3 pages, Alert, Detail & Apply. We can now observe a significant improvement in Alert & Detail pages and a small improvement in Apply page.

We need to make further improvements in Alert & Apply pages. Our review of these pages suggest that major performance hit is coming due to authenticating the jobseeker from his/her mobile no. The mobile no. field in the server database is a free text field (it was never designed for login purposes). This field has totally unstructered data, as shown in examples below,
+91 9800220348
9821762252, 9920511872
602-234-6782
88002 56259

Because of this, mobile no has to be quried using LIKE operator instead of = operator. We cannot use index on this field. Even free text index is not working due to use of spaces, dashes, etc.
Also, the mobile no stored in a different table and the password is in another table. We have to join the 2 tables to search on Mobile No+Password combination.

Therefore, we propose that we use User ID (usually e-mail id) and Password instead of Mobile No & Password. User id and password are stored in the same table. Both fields can be indexed for fast query. This should improve the performance markedly.

Thus, we propose following interface between server and widget.
Alert
Data:  2 textboxes, for User ID & Password

Detail
Data:  2 textboxes, for User ID & Job ID

Aply
Data:  2 textboxes, for User ID & Job ID

If your team is ok with this plan, we will go ahead and make these pages. We will inform when these pages are ready, so that you can make necessary changes to the widget.

About changing the display of job detail page as suggested by your UI designer, how do you want the data to come from server. Is a HTML table ok? Or do you require a line separator character at the place the output will be broken into another line? If seperator has to be used, we need to decide on a character that will not appear in job details (say | or \).

Let us know about these 2 points (1. using userd instead of mobile no, 2. Job detail display).

Thanks
Shuklendu

Here is a late revelation – sorry for that !

A few minutes ago, I touched the beautiful icon of  “ My Jobs “ widget , pretending that I saw it for the very first time on my Aakash tablet ( - so kindly pre-installed by Suneet )

First screen shows me a small logo of SiteOnMobile

In 2 / 3 seconds , second screen appears automatically , with SiteOnMobile logo and two buttons  ,  >  Cancel    and    >  Next

I don’t get what this is all about

Nevertheless, I touch  “ Next “

That takes me to the third screen, saying :

: To proceed , we require following parameters

Enter Mobile Number ( - to be changed to “ User ID “ )

  Enter Password :

Now I am lost !

Which User Id ? Which Password ? And WHY ?

I strongly feel that , on the SECOND screen ( which opens automatically ) , we must show following message :

To receive free job alerts on this widget , register as a jobseeker on  www.CustomizeResume.com and get your User ID / Password  “

I suppose this can be done quickly

RE: Revenue Share

Dear  Geetha

Many thanks for accepting my revenue-share proposal as also for accepting RecruitGuru as your special partner

I wish to clarify that I will be happy to apply the same revenue-share formula with HP Labs , if and when we tie-up with Zedo.com thru our planned association with Datawind. And same with any other Advt Network as far as serving of advts on” My Jobs “ widget is concerned

However , this arrangement will not cover following situations :

Ø  Advts displayed thru any of our widget NOT developed by HP Labs

Ø Advts displayed on our web site ( eg: AdSense etc )

As far as upholding and enhancing the high reputation of HP Labs is concerned , I wish to assure you that you will not find us wanting

We value and cherish your encouragement / support to our tiny organization

Through a series of “ Jobs / Recruitment “ related widgets to be developed jointly by our organizations , I am confident we will make “ Job Searching “ ( by jobseekers ) and “ Resume Searching “ ( by Recruiters / Employers ), obsolete

Eg:

A “ suitable “ job gets posted on a job portal in USA and a Canadian jobseeker receives it on his mobile within 10 seconds !

I like to call this “ JAB – Job Alert Broadcast “

As  you so rightly observed , together , we will “ enable solutions that matter to the world

Thanking you – and your wonderful team – once again

With regards

hemen

Dear Heman,
First of all, we are extremely sorry for hurting your sentiments and breaking your expectations about Hewlett Packard.. That was not our intent.

I beleive Revathi was only exploring the options for revenue sharing with you  - in all fairness. Apologies if it came about as 'demanding'. . Actually, HP Labs is a research division (a non-profit-loss organization) and we are not empowered to receive revenue. However, as you may imagine, since HP is a big company, we cannot make any decisions on 'money-matters' without checking with our management. Hence, we were not in any position to respond to your question in your email about expectations from HP Labs earlier....  Also, we started the partnership in a non-commercial free pilot agreement.. It is but natural that things do change when commercial terms come in.

Having said all the above, I should say that it was a learning experience for our team to work with partners like you on real-life problems and enable solutions that matter to the world. Thanks very much.. Let us go with your current proposal for being a special partner for us for having a noble cause.  We will bring in our HP business division members to formalize this agreement.

The good news is that, use of Tasklets enables one to deliver new versions of the content without requiring a reinstall of the Android widget. That is , any content change (or enhancements) that you may make on your portal can be passed onto older versions of Android widget with some changes to our Tasklets. So, even if you bundle a version with Akash tablet next month, any enhancements to the Job Detail that you make on the portal in future (for example: displaying a link to the product company) will be immediately appled to older versions of the Andrid widget as well. THis is the power of executing Tasklets in the cloud. On the flipside, however, the execution of every widget will always use HP servers in our datacenter. .So, in a remote case of our project being scrapped due to funding issues, the widget will stop working.  In which case, we will propose alternate methods to bring up the JAM widget using some resources on your website (if and when that happens). Just thought we should share this information with you, in case it was not discussed earlier..  Please feel free to ask for clarifications, if needed.

Thanks again for a wonderful partnership.. We look forward to continue working with you on this project

Trust you are already receiving newer versions of the widget from Revathi.. :-)

Your call yesterday, demanding that I share with HP Labs, 55 % of my revenue from InMobi Network , came as a complete shock !

Had I known this a few months back , before your team started development work on the widget , I would have spared you the trouble

In fact , on my own , I raised this issue on Oct 25, when I forwarded to you the revenue – share proposal received from Suneet Tuli ( Datawind )

In that email, I wrote :

However, before I confirm to Suneet, the revenue-sharing basis proposed by him, I must know the expectations of HP Labs – India

A couple of days thereafter, we ( yourself , Geetha Manjunath and myself ) had a conference call when Geetha outlined the 2 – stage development of the widget , including her suggestion on how we can “ integrate “ InMobi Advts on our own thru our web site

This discussion was confirmed by her the very next day thru email

Even then , there was NO MENTION of any kind re sharing revenue with HP Labs !

All along , my impression ( reinforced thru a series of email exchanges between us over the last 3 months , since your team started work on the widget ) was :

By placing SiteOnMobile logo on the very first screen of the widget, HP Labs wishes to leverage this medium to publicize / promote its “ Tasklet “ technology amongst millions of jobseekers. This is the “ mileage “ that HP Labs wishes to derive out of its developmental effort

But all of this is “ water under the bridge “

The ground reality is that I am in no position to accede to your demand , in light of the enormous effort that my team has put in over the years to develop our web site and the marketing effort that we would need to put in , in the months and years to come .

Having said this , I would still like to continue my association with HP Labs , if your management would accept the following revenue – sharing formula :

Ø  Year 1  ………..          10 % of what I earn from InMobi

Ø Year  2  ………             5 %          “

Ø Year  3 onwards………..Nil %

I earnestly request you  to convince your top management to accept this formula magnanimously , considering :

Ø Any earnings that you might receive would be insignificant in relation to HP’s current revenue of $ 120 billions

Ø SiteOnMobile’s goal of “ giving internet experience on mobile phones to millions without access to broadband “

If , for some reasons , you cannot , I still wish to place on record , my deep appreciation of the tremendous co-operation and support that all of you have given to my mission of ,

Revenue Share

Dear  Siddharth

In your last email, you wrote :

Hi Hemen,

That is good to know.

To start off with, you would receive a revenue share of 60% of net revenues in your favour.
Our average android CPCs are about $0.03-4 for India, while the network average CTRs would be around 0.5%.

Based on the CTR that you achieve, your app will earn revenue.

However, I have interpreted your email as per following calculation. Is this correct ?

Hi Hemen,

That is correct – this is exactly the CPC pricing model.
Within these earnings, we will retain 40% while you will keep 60%.

RE: Interfacing with InMobi Ad servers

Dear  Siddharth

Yesterday , we received from Revathi , URL from where we can download “ My Jobs “ widget for further testing at our end

If you wish , you can download it from :

If this works satisfactorily, it will get uploaded on Android Market before we start our promo email campaign

Modifying the widget for integration with InMobi network can be undertaken only in Phase 2

In the meantime, I would highly appreciate if you would let me know :

Ø How much revenue-share percentage can RecruitGuru expect to receive from InMobi for each advt that gets viewed

Ø How much would that translate ( approx ) in Rupees per ad viewed

Hi,

Would like to clarify the following:

1)      When targeting blind, it isn’t random – our algorithms use all the data points to come up with the right match. It is just blind to advertiser who can’t target the specific app or site
2)      Direct sold is a sales plan that leverages on this.
Therefore please make sure that right from the outset you are sending all the data.

Subject: Interfacing with InMobi Ad servers

Hello Siddharth,

Thanks for the clarifications about InMobi ad network.

From our discussion, we understand the following,

1.     InMobi ad network delivers ads to Mobile platform. It does not deliver ads to PC web sites.
2.     InMobi platform has 2 existing ways of serving adverts to publishers
a.     Blind (Basic) Ad network                          (adverts are delivered on random basis)
b.     Targetted (Advance) Ad network          (adverts matching the demographic profile sent in ad request are delivered to the extent possible)
3.     InMobi can also provide customized advert delivery for a specific publisher for high-volume ad views (> 1 million impressions per month)

Revathi RIC,
Based on these discussions, we may plan following phased development for our widget,
Phase 1:
Use InMobi’s Blind Ad Network
(This will not require any new pages to be developed in customizeresume server)

Phase 2:
Use InMobi’s Targetted Ad Network
InMobi has option to send following demographic data
Demographics Information
Parameter
Value
u-age
User’s age in years. InMobi accepts a non-negative integer in this place.
u-gender
User’s gender. Accepted values are f or m in lowercase.
u-location
City-State-Country
u-interests
A comma-separated list of keywords denoting user’s area of interests as agreed by the user or detected by your application. For example, cars, sports, F1, stocks, and so on.
u-id
Specific string that can uniquely identify the user in your domain and that can be shared.
u-postalCode
Example: 95035
u-areaCode
Example: 408
u-dateOfBirth
In the format YYYY:MM:DD. For example, 1974:12:12.
u-income
Example: 250000
u-latlong
Example: 37.771008,-122.41175
u-education
Example: UG or PG
u-ethnicity
Example: Asian, Hispanic, and so on.

Siddharth indicated that there are few other fields that can be used to send oher details like Company Name (though targetting may not happen for these fields).

We will need to create page at the web server to return above details to the widget for the logged in user.

Please revert with your comments,

Thanks
