Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

RE: LiFIComm Blog

 Dear Gaurang,

I must admit I just don’t know enough about the technology underlying LiFi, to be able to write an article.

My few past blogs ( sent to Cabinet Ministers-State Chief Ministers – NITI Aayog etc ), were no more than my recognition of the potential of LiFi tech to bridge the Digital Divide , by taking internet to every nook and corner of India

As to why there is a “ lack of awareness “, please remember that Indians are ( by sheer compulsion of low income ), very COST CONSCIOUS

To appreciate what I mean, consider the following scenario :

My joint family occupies 2 floors in a building ( 4 bedrooms + kitchen + hall + terrace etc )

A nearby ISP supplies internet through 5 routers ( 3 on one floor + 2 on another floor ) at a speed of 75 mbps – and charges Rs 700 per month , all told.

Now, a typical household may have just 1 BHK accommodation ( with one router ) and may be getting net @ Rs 300 per month ( for 25 mbps )- good enough

To create awareness ( and to get it spread like wild fire ? ), all that is required for LiFi suppliers, is :

Ø   To stop harping on speed / security / every LED lamp becomes an internet device ( and any other advantages over WiFi ),  and

Ø   To prove ( through Cost Comparative Tabulation ), how much cheaper is LiFi as compared to WiFi ( total cost of owning / operating ) for same

      speed

As far as I can see, LiFi will NOT make slightest dent in the ( tightly controlled ) ISP market, until the DISCOMS start carrying internet on their electricity distribution network .

Only the DISCOMS have the  “ INHERENT / BULLT-IN /  SUPERIOR “ ADVANTAGE  ( of their electric wires reaching 300 million households in India ), over the existing ISPs

Now , on a somewhat distant horizon, a new method of delivering internet, is taking shape

This is Satellite based delivery of internet from StarlinkOneWeb , Project Kuiper etc ( may be 2 years to go commercial ? )

But, this is expensive even for city-dwellers

- ( StarLink’s Receiving Antenna / Dish would cost $499 (Rs 37,000 approx) for hardware and a monthly cost of $99 (Rs 7000 approx) for internet service.  )

For rural household and very remote places ( which, currently do not have any ISP service – and for whom, StarLink is meant ), this price is just IMPOSSIBLE !

Our Central Government has still not granted necessary permission to Starlink

I think Govt should agree for licensing with a condition that , a  “ recipient / buyer / customer “ of StarLink shall have the right to sub-distribute the net signal to all the flats / apartments in any given building and turn this connection into a “ profitable / paying proposition “

With regards,

Hemen

Gaurang,

Just received your newsletter and then looked up following page on your website :

https://lifi.co/lifi-products/lifimax/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=LiFiMAX+now+for+sale%3A+plug-and-play+LiFi+product

Congratulations  !

Found that your offer will cost approx. Rs 85,000 / -

Once you carry out any installation in Andheri area, do let me know so that I can visit and check-out in person , before speaking to others about it

Since, I still need a ISP , I am currently spending approx. Rs 700 pm ( for 50 Mbps ). That cost will continue

I also await to hear from you re that big govt project which you mentioned during our telecom , one month ago

With regards,

hemen
