Subject: DEAR SHRI NARENDRABHAI / FOR YOUR KEYNOTE ADDRESS TO CII ANNUAL MEET THIS AFTERNOON

A Cold-Calling Commerce Minister of Canada

Context :

PM suggests 4 point strategy to achieve $ 400 b exports in FY 2022

Extract :

Ø     Prime Minister Narendra Modi today listed four factors to boost exports and urged all stakeholders to identify new products and destinations

Ø     The factors include,

#   Increasing manufacturing manifold

#   Removing logistics problems

#   Coordination between exporters and government

#   Finding more global markets for Indian products

Ø     Expanding on the four factors, Modi said that manufacturing has to be QUALITATIVELY competent as many consumers worldwide value QUALITY more than PRICE

Ø     Most importantly, it was important to find more international markets for products made in India

Ø     To mark 75 years of independence, Modi asked MISSION HEADS to identify 75 new items that could be exported from India to THEIR country of operation

Ø     Modi also asked the Indian diaspora in different countries to get involved in the promotion drive and help boost exports of specific items from THEIR states of origin

Ø     State Governments , too, could select five-ten top priority goods and send them to at least 75 countries, he added

My Take :

Dear Shri Narendrabhai,

Following is a “ Foreign adoption “ of the Indian saying :

यथा राजा तथा प्रजा

[  Source : https://emailothers.blogspot.com/2014/11/fw-ace-salesman_11.html#.YREVXYgzaUk ]

Extract :

Some 42 years ago , when I was General Manager ( Powai Works / Mumbai ) , at Larsen & Toubro , I had an opportunity to host a lunch for the Commerce Minister of Canada

After lunch , the Minister pulled out 4 / 5 small , neatly labelled glass bottles from his brief case

Each bottle contained samples of crude oil from different oil fields of Canada

Minister went on to explain :

*      Chemical Composition / Specific Gravity /  Quality of each sample ( eg:  Sulphur content / Sweet

        Sour  etc )

*      Daily Output of each field ( Barrels / day )

*      Spot Market prices / Long Term Contract rates

*      Delivery Commitments.... etc

Then , he went ahead to distribute to L&T executives present , brochures of the private Canadian Companies , engaged in exploration / production of Crude Oil in Canada

And answered every single question with the knowledge of an ace SALESMAN of those companies !

There was no doubt, he firmly believed that his primary job while travelling abroad, was to " SELL  CANADA " !

Dear Shri Narendrabhai,

I urge you to forward this incidence to all of our Ambassadors / High Commissioners / Consul Generals / Mission Heads / Trade Representatives etc. , all over the World and tell them :

“  I expect you to do one better than the Canadian Commerce Minister .

Please carry with you a laptop on which you can show to any potential customer ( in the country of your posting ), full details of any Indian Product that he might be interested – along with the CONTACT details of all the Indian manufacturers of that product

And, if that potential foreign customer wants more details ( price – quality – delivery etc ), then , on-the-spot, PHONE that company Chairman / MD , asking him / her to e-mail the requested details to that customer , with a copy to yourself , for follow up “

No rocket science this !

Only a simple technology – and a “ We will win this Olympic Game “  attitude

Enough to meet target of $ 400 billion exports

On this very subject ( Portal to help doing business Better ), over the past 5 years, Govt has already

launched the following portals ( primarily targeting Foreign Investors ) :

    #     https://www.makeinindia.com/ ,  with following sections :

Sectors / Investor Desk / Opportunities / Policies / Ease of Doing Business / Listicles  / FAQs

   #    https://www.investindia.gov.in/about-us  , with following sections :

Invest India / Initiatives / Opportunities / Country Desk / Resources / Outreach

In both of these portals, under each section, there are several “ sub-sections “ , providing very detailed and very useful info in respect of “ Doing Business in India

Although there seems to be some OVERLAP of info being provided

But, to best of my knowledge, neither of these portals have any database of INDIAN COMPANIES ( may be 500,000 ? ), which a foreign investor can,

#    Search

     ( by Industry Name / Location / products – services / organization / finances etc )

#    Prepare and Store,

      a list ( or several lists ) of “ Shortlisted Companies “

#   Compose / Store / Send out

“ Business Offer Messages “ to shortlisted Indian companies ( with just ONE CLICK )  / receive their e-mailed responses / continue online “ Dialogue

Ø       In my view proposed portal MADHYAM should host such a database of Indian Companies and incorporate a “ Multi- Way Communication “ feature (

between Foreign Investors / Shortlisted Indian Companies / related Govt Agencies  )

Ø       This (feature) could be in line with the  www.B2BmessageBlaster.com which I had launched in 2015 and later de-hosted

  Dear Shri Piyush Goyalji,

As repeatedly offered in the past, I would be happy to hand-over the source-code of

www.B2BmessageBlaster.com ,

to your Ministry which is developing MAADHYAM ( absolutely FREE and without any obligation what-so-ever )

At this stage ( before launch of MAADHYAM ), it would be highly desirable to ask :

  #   Is it not too cumbersome – and expensive – to maintain THREE different

portals on the same  / similar / complimentary subject ( and duplicating

       some information ) ?

  #   Will we end up confusing Foreign Investors by trying to simultaneously

promote 3 different portals on the same / similar subject ?

  #   Is it too late to consider merging / consolidating, all three portals, in

order to make this a truly SINGLE VIRTUAL ENTRANCE to India ?
