𝗚𝗙𝗣-𝗚𝗔𝗡 is a blind face restoration algorithm towards real-world face images. It leverages the generative face prior in a pre-trained GAN to restore realistic faces while preserving fidelity.

Blind face restoration aims at recovering high-quality faces from the low-quality counterparts suffering from unknown degradation, such as low-resolution, noise, blur, compression artifacts, etc.

This Generative Facial Prior (GFP) is incorporated into the face restoration process via channel-split spatial feature transform layers, which allow for a good balance between realness and fidelity.

The results are amazing!

I know that the results aren't completely satisfactory but it's still a time consuming process.
I can do it for Rs.5,000 but then I'll deliver it in 30 days.

Let me know if this works for you.

Hello,

Sorry I took so long to reply to your emails. I was out on a shoot and just got some time to breath today.

I actually wanted to discuss with you some details about the upscaling process. It's a tedious process. Given the capacity of my laptop, I'll be able to complete it in 15-20 days. I wish I could complete it by your Anniversary but sadly that won't be possible. Also it will be Rs.10,000 for this upscaling process. Hence, I had mentioned it in my previous email that you take your time and decide in this regard.

Also do send me those photographs as and when you can for upscaling.

Wish you and your family a Happy DIwali!

Regards,
Viraj

Viraj,

Many thanks for sending two improved clips

There does not seem to be much difference ( in clarity / sharpness ) between the two but , as you say , 4K version is somewhat better

I request you to go ahead with 4k version

I suppose , as of now, there is no way of overcoming the limitations of the original footage

Hello,

I really hope that one day I would be able to turn your video into a hologram but for now let's see what can be done about it's upscaling.

So I went through a couple methods using which a video can be upscaled. And the most useful method that I come across was that of using a software called Video Enhance AI - https://topazlabs.com/video-enhance-ai/

But still what I have realized after going through various upscaling processes is these methods work best with High Definition(1920x1080p) videos. As in, the original resolution of the video needs to be at least 1920x1080p for these softwares to produce drastically visible changes which is not the case with our video. The resolution of our video from the DVD is 720x576p which is very low. Nevertheless I went ahead with the upscaling of 1 min of our footage at different settings and I am sending you links to 2 results and also a link to the same video in it's original DVD resolution. These are YouTube links which need to be watched at their maximum resolution. Hence, please make sure that while watching a video, you are on it's highest available resolution.

4K (3840x2160p)  - https://youtu.be/VB91rIqfXDs

FHD (1980x1080p) - https://youtu.be/8dS4hXHYcc0

Original (720x576p) - https://youtu.be/PZRIfFb5Gqs

Here is a download link  - https://we.tl/t-PQL5xE01hH  to all 3 videos. In this case, you need not worry about checking the resolution settings as it will play at it's best resolution by default.

I would suggest that you watch them on a big screen as it will be easy to see the difference.

I personally think that the 4K version is the best output that we can achieve. It isn't a major improvement but it's the best that I can achieve with the given footage. I would say that you take your time going through these videos. And then if you feel that we can go ahead with the upscaling of the entire video then we can discuss it further.

Viraj

Vijay,

Without doubt, you are taking longer so that the upscaling you achieve , will amaze me – with some sort of disbelief !

And then, after a couple of years, you will startle me by further upscaling of this video, by converting into a 3D hologram ( played on a mobile ) as demonstrated at :

Good luck

Hello,

I am still experimenting with the upscaling process with different softwares. I will send you a few samples in a couple of days.

Good to know that you have digital copies of those photos. Send them over whenever you can and we can discuss it further.

Just saw the video with certain dark patches cropped , reducing the time to 16 minutes ( from 19 minutes )

I am sure , it will look far better , once you manage upscaling

As far as my father’s photos with Nehru are concerned, someone in the family has soft copies . I will get and email to you

Hello,

It was great to hear about your father's pictures with Nehruji. These are indeed priceless pictures and worth archiving. I would like to know whether you have digital copies of these pictures that need to be upscaled or you have physical copies, in which case we'll have to scan them first. Let me know and then we can discuss it further.

Thanks for sharing links to these various softwares. AutoFlip looks like a useful tool that can be and will be used in future. I read up on it. It's in the development stage and they still don't have a proper version of it available which can be downloaded and used like other editing softwares.

I have begun working on the upscaling process of your marriage video and I should be able to send you a sample of it in a few days. I'll keep you posted.

Viraj

This is, indeed great news !

Here is one more link that you may want to look up :

Can these software help improve resolutions of very old photos ( black and white or colour ) ?

I have some 85- 86 year old black and white photos of my father with Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, when  Nehru visited Burma and my father toured with him as his “ Tour Secretary “

Hello,

I am doing a bit of research about the upscaling process. It might take some time but it can be done. I will keep you updated in that regard. I will start working on it Monday onwards.

I received the payment today. Thank you.

Regards,

Viraj
