Dear Friends ,

My heartfelt condolence to KLS !

While expressing my sadness at the passing away of Mrs Suri , I cannot help remember my personal bonding with KLS

Because , we both spoke of a common language - that of Petrol Pumps  !

When I joined L&T in 1959 , I had already spent one year at MIDCO , producing petrol pumps !

And much like KLS , when some BURMAH SHELL officers visited MIDCO factory to assess its production capacity , I was ready with machine-wise calculations to prove that , we , at MIDCO , can deliver 100 pumps per month , when we had never delivered more than 20 in any month !

My heart felt condolence to KLS and his family.

Suri used to overstate shortages with all seriousness and present a dismal picture.

Those days the target was 100 pumps a month.

If i am not mistaken Suri was formerly with Airforce and used to enjoy his drinks.

Once I recall UVR had invited PSW production personnel home for dinner and Suri was one of them.

Suri has had a couple of drinks and was in a great mood.

UVR approached Suri and asked him 'Suri,How many Pumps you will produce this month?"

Suri with all seriousness and stern look responded,

 'Mr.Rao,GIVE ME MATERIALS FOR 100 PUMPS AND I WILL PRODUCE 105 PUMPS"

All of us including UVR burst into laughter !!

One of our dear ex-colleagues, KL Suri, lost his wife last week.  She was bediridden for long and fortunately for them they had a full time nurse to take care of her as well as Suri.

RM Pai, 79, from Goregaon, HR Shenoy, 75, from Andheri visited KL Suri, 89 at Thane Vasant Vihar to offer our condolences.  I was meeting RMP after nearly two decades and KLS after nearly 3 decades.

Suri was also married to only Petrol Pumps in L&T from 1962 to 1987 i.e. till his retirement.

Here is how KL Suri (with their caretaker in the background) looks like now at 89.  His memory is still great.  God bless him.
