I forgot to mention that , on our way back to Powai , we used to
carry reams full of “ Monthly Output Statement for Inventory “ and
distribute to various departments concerned
May be that data was so old that the User Departments found it
better to either phone up ITD or send someone to go to the PSW stores and look
up the Kardex ( - maintained reliably by Sukumaran ? )
We even discontinued for a while , and found that no one seemed
to “ miss “ !
But old habits die hard !

April 2019 – a Day to Celebrate
To
most, this is yet another All Fools Day. To most in EBG of 1999, this was a
memorable day, since we went live with SAP R/3 with a bang. 3 factories, 17 (?)
stocking points, 35 Regional Offices and Branches, hundreds of online users. It
was the culmination of some 18 months' untiring effort and which laid the
foundation for L&T Infotech SAP.
We
in L&T Switchgear were always ahead of anyone in India in computerisation,
particularly of our manufacturing operations. Having been involved with
computerisation from 1981, I know it because our competitors used to visit us
to study our systems whenever they attended programmes at NITIE on Production
Planning, Materials Management etc and used to be dumbstruck when I explained
them our systems, with demo on terminals.
All
credit to Messrs HC Parekh, AY Divekar and VS Shiroor in that order who gave a
lead taking great initiative during their association with EBG.
Right
time to celebrate this achievement is now – 20th year – rather than
wait for the Silver Jubilee since a few of us living on bonus years which can
get exhausted any time.
I
want some youngsters from this group, who were a part of the implementation
team, to take the initiative and organise a contributory get together.
I
will handle the emailing work and compiling list of participants.
Of
the group, I can think of AM Rao as the one who can handle this get together
efficiently.
We
are about 40 days away from the event. Please ‘reply to all’ who want to be
part of the organising committee and who would like to participate. Also share
the email with others who may not be part of my group.
