Reference to creation of Expressing Myself page

 Shuklendu

As fixed up on Monday , Shivanand and myself will meet you today at 10 am
Following link is of interest in connection with creation of “ Expressing Myself “ page – a micro-blogging Search Engine project for 3 weeks Industry Training for Shivanand
Our major objectives in creation of this page are :

Ø Digital survival of all of my handwritten notes / typed Reports / approx 500 blogs etc, written over last 20 / 25 years, in one place

Ø Making these accessible to Google spider for indexing

Ø Spreading these all over the Net ( various web sites ) by providing RSS Feed facility from this page

This link will help  http://www.blogsearchengine.com/2006/05/08/where-to-submit-your-rss/

RE: B2B web site / Note 4

Dear Ashwini

Sorry , I saw your mail only now. By some chance , it had gone to Junk folder !

I am glad your team is making good progress . Keep it up !

If not already done , I suggest that you quickly install on LTIT server , TEAMVIEWER software

Then I will be able to actually view from my residence , whatever project is developed on your machine . This software is FREE

In such an event , I can suggest changes remotely . You can also share your work with Shuklendu / Nitin. This remote collaboration will save a lot of time since you can carry out the changes on-the-spot , get OK and move on

If you need any help in installing TeamViewer , my colleague Kailas can guide you over phone. Just let me know

Regards

Hcp

PS :

Remember , half of what your team will “ learn “ thru developing this web site , will come thru preparation of detailed Project Plan ( at least a simple Gantt Chart , if you cannot use MS Project software sent to Shivanand by Kailas ). Setting “ Achievement Mile Stones “ ( Target Completion Dates for each activity ) is key to success in real life business / industry environment

Make Yourself Obsolete

Dear Team

Some 40 years ago , Theodore Levitt  wrote an essay titled ,
Marketing Myopia
In that , he summarized ,
If you don’t make yourself obsolete , someone else will
And , after 30 years , it is obvious that , that someone need not even be a competitor from your industry
3 years back , none of us anticipated that , a web site called LinkedIn , would pose a serious threat to Recruitment / Headhunting Industry
But , today it does – and it was not even a brick-and-mortar competitor !
Client companies , under tremendous pressure for cutting costs , are now bypassing the middlemen ( the headhunters ) and approaching candidates directly
Can you guess what next ?
Imagine the following scenario :

Sharad Nandurdikar ( SIMON ) walks into a seminar wearing Google Glasses ( I believe , launched yesterday @ $ 1,500 /- for select customers )
Also walks in Mr Pandit ( imagined name ) , General Manager - Erection , of Essar Projects , also wearing Google Glasses
Even as the two are introduced by a common friend , each is looking at the LinkedIn profile of the other in his own Google Glass
Sharad also reads ( of course , in his Google Glass ! ) that Pandit has been reported in some newspapers as being unhappy at being superseded in a recent organizational reshuffle in his company
And , on his part , Pandit is reading news about the massive orders that SIMON received recently and that it is out recruiting for a Vice President, Engineering
Instinctively they strike up a discussion and , within a few minutes , retire to a sofa outside the seminar hall , to explore the possibility of joining up
By the time, they meet up again in a hotel room in the evening , Sharad has managed to make necessary “ Reference Checks “ on Pandit , as also his Credit Rating with a reputed Agency ( specializing in this work )
As soon as the Compensation negotiations are concluded , Sharad whispers to his Google Glass , which , instantly emails the Offer Letter to Pandit’s Google Glass
In turn , Pandit whispers to his Google Glass , which transmits his Acceptance of Offer to Sharad’s Google Glass

Does this seem far fetched ?
Does even LinkedIn anticipate obsolescence from a piece of extremely intelligent , Omnipresent , Omniscient , Omnipotent hardware ?
In a normal course , I would have added ,
“ I may not be around to see this happen “
But , the rate at which , Innovations are surfacing – and making entire industries obsolete , for all you know , I may still be around to see this !

Moral of the story :

Don’t wait to be forced by your clients or your competitors to “ Innovate “
By then It may be too late
40 years back , when Admiral Rickover of US Navy floated a tender for the first nuclear submarine , he made it a condition that companies making an offer shall incorporate a PERT chart , clearly specifying all the activities and the Critical Path for project completion
Thereafter , this has become a Standard Condition for all US Defense Contracts
Do you want to wait till ,

Ø Either your client starts insisting on a simple Gantt Chart along with your offer

OR

Ø One of your competitors starts doing this – and you have to meekly “ follow suit “ , having missed the opportunity to make your competitor “ Obsolete “ ?

B2B web site FAQ

Dear Team

Attached find draft FAQ for B2B
Some of these are in the nature of “ Promises “ of what we will do for the users – and how it will get done
It is quite possible that by the time we end up with all the design / development of web site , we may drop some of these as being too difficult to implement
Or end up with different solutions , needing different “ Answers
But , even as I sat down to make a list of possible “ Questions “ that a user may ask , I realized that there were some loose threads !
So , we end up giving the “ Answers “ first – then worry about how to carry out our promise !

Banner Ad Space on B2B / B2C web sites

Shuklendu

This has ref to my note on this subject yesterday
Subsequently I realized that , in case of CustomizeResume , Google has turned down our request ( for display of AdSense ads ) , 4  /  5 times so far , for unexplained reasons ( maybe we can try once more )
Fortunately , in CustomizeResume , we have provided horizontal blank space for banner ads , right at the very BOTTOM of each page
So , non-appearance of AdSense ads do not look bad
This could happen for B2B / B2C sites as well !
A blank space at the TOP would look ridiculous !
You may decide and advise Ashwini

Another thing :
The REGISTRATION FORM ( for Companies / Employers ) on B2B / B2C web sites has some more FIELDS as compared to our current form on CustomizeResume
Since we plan to have a COMMON DATABASE ( for Companies / Employers ) on all the 3 web sites , we will need to modify our current form on CustomizeResume

Subject: B2BmessageBlaster

Dear Ashwini / Pratidnya / Juilee

Thank you for visiting my office this morning to clarify the concept behind
 www.B2BmessageBlaster.com

For the sake of good order , following is the gist of our discussions :

Ø All the 3 web sites ( existing www.CustomizeResume.com  as also proposed B2B and B2C ), will use the same databases of Companies / Employers and of Candidates / Jobseekers

Ø Wherever possible , even un-registered / casual visitors , should be able to test / check-out various functionalities of the web site , till the point of clicking on the buttons. The buttons will remain “ inactive “ unless the user has logged in. If not , appropriate message will appear

Ø The message-blasting service will be FREE to registered Companies

Ø It would be highly desirable that PROTOTYPE / DUMMY ( but realistic ) user interfaces are developed FIRST , before coding starts.

Ø  It is obvious that , on such prototypes , links / buttons will not be clickable. But such realistic prototypes will serve the purpose of visualizing how each U/I will appear to visitors and whether it will make sense or not. It will also serve the purpose of ensuring that both , the write-up and the tabulated / framed displays below each page write-up , clearly explain to the visitor , what he is supposed to “ do “ on each page and “ how “ he can do that

Ø “ Watch My Own Blast “ page is our USP ( Unique Selling Proposition ). It is meant to vividly demonstrate the concept behind the web site. It is meant to convince the “ Potential Company “ that messages are truly getting delivered to the intended recipients. As mentioned elsewhere , a Company must get an email message when it’s message-delivery starts , inviting the concerned Company Executive to visit and view the progress

Ø “ Who is Blasting ? “ page is simply the QUEUE of all the deliveries lined up chronologically. This will tell a Company-User , place of his marketing campaign in the Queue. As soon as the current marketing campaign gets over , it will get deleted from this queue

Ø Your current Project Assignment will EXCLUDE the development of the corresponding Mobile App and relevant web page

If there are any other questions / clarifications , do not hesitate to phone me on 98,67,55,08,08
I am glad to know that you plan to complete the entire project , latest by mid-September
In that case , Shuklendu’s colleagues will be able to test the full working offline and give you “ Correction / Modification Feedback “ by Sept end .

If your team carries out such corrections by mid-Oct , we may be able to launch by end Oct

The look and feel of this web site must follow the pattern of CustomizeResume

For this reason , it would be nice if the DUMMY of the home page is prepared ASAP and shown to me / Shuklendu , before proceeding with the dummies of the remaining pages
Regards

B2B Site Note 2

Dear Team

From time to time , I will send you notes re design / development of B2B site
Most of my thoughts / comments would also apply to B2C site . So Team #2 should also read these notes
It is quite possible that , at times , I may sound so “ Elementary “  re matters that you already know “ so well “
Here is Note #2
One of  the most important things is that the web pages must render equally well in most of the popular browsers, viz: Explorer / Chrome / Firefox etc
If you are not aware , Shuklendu could tell you about tools which you can use to test this aspect
It would also help you to thoroughly study Google Web Master Tools and incorporate SEO principles outlined therein
I believe Google Analytics allows you to test each page and know whether it is optimized or not
You may have noticed that CustomizeResume web site pages are divided into 4 parts as follows :
Ø Top Bar containing Site Name and a few links

Ø Bottom Bar containing Copy Right / Powered By / Maintained By / Contact Info etc

Ø Left side Vertical Navigation Bar containing page-links in groups

Ø Rest of the Real Estate , for page write-up / forms / Display of Results ( Working Space )

In B2B , pl add a 2” ( ? ) wide vertical Right Side Bar , to enable Google to post AdSense Advts ( on ALL pages )
If you research Google AdSense web site , it will tell you about the width of this Right Side vertical BLANK bar
In the past , Shuklendu and myself had reached a conclusion that , instead of a narrow right side blank vertical bar ( on All pages ) , it brings better revenue if we provide a ,
2” deep blank , horizontal bar , right below the TOP BAR and running the entire width of the web page ( from left edge of page to the right edge ) , where Google can display / insert a BANNER Ad
Google Adsense page , gives ideal dimensions for such a BANNER ad blank space . Pl look up
I leave to Shuklendu , the final decision re where to provide the AdSense Space
One advantage of a full width horizontal BANNER AD bar is that we get more space ( real estate ) for the page write-up / action portion
Another very important point is re STANDARDIZATION
Not only of the page layout but also of,

Ø Font Style ( I prefer Verdana )

Ø Font Sizes ( For each element such as , Page Name / Para Titles / Sub Titles etc )

Ø Use of Bullets

Ø Button Sizes

Ø Link Widths

Ø Slogan ( Stop Advertizing / Start Marketing ) on all pages

Ø Left Alignment

It is best to create a STANDARD TEMPLATE  that all developers can follow

You may benefit by looking up ,

Ø CustomizeResume Web Master Tools by,
Password = Indiarecruiter

Ø CustomizeResume Web Analytics by,
User Id = CustomizeResume
Password = hemenparekh

B2B Site Note 3 / Navigation Bar

Dear Team

Another very important feature of any web site is ,

Ø  Within a few minutes , a casual visitor must get to know what it is all about

Ø  Being able to navigate it easily / non-sequentially

Ø  Never getting “ lost “

Ø  Not having to click “ Back “ button

Ø  Jump from any page to any other page

All of these depend upon the Navigation Bar

In our case , this is the Left Side Vertical Link bar , where the links are grouped into a few “ Theme Groups “
In case of B2B web site , I suggest we arrange these links as follows ( from Top to Bottom ) in distinct boxes :

·         Register

·         Log In

·         What Can We Do ?

#    Home Page
#    For Whom ?
      #    Marketing is Cheap

·         Act Here

#    Compose Messages
#    Create Mailing Lists
#    Design Campaigns ( New name of “ Blast Away “ page )

·         Check Progress

#    Who is Blasting ?
#    Watch My Blast ?
#   Campaign Feedback
#   Recipient Response

·         General Info

#    Our  Subscribers
#    Site Map
#    FAQ
#    Terms and Conditions
#    Site Statistics

I have yet to prepare FAQ , which I will do next week
Apart from these “ Blocks / Boxes “ , we should incorporate one or more of the following ( towards the end of bar ) :
In the past , we had experienced virus attack from one of these – so choose carefully in consultation with Shuklendu

FW: What does Amit Goyal want

Nitin

I await your feedback on your talk with Amit Goyal
If you could not reach him over phone , pl send him an email
As far as additional “ Company Database “ ( of approx 3 lakh records ) is concerned , Tushar has already finished the “ City Name “ correction
In another 2 days , he expects to finish separating multiple email IDs by commas , as instructed by you during his visit to your office
If you are satisfied with this clean-up , I hope you can upload by next week end

Nitin

Shuklendu told me yesterday that you were trying to phone Amit Goyal to find out what he has in mind when offering SDK for RESUME BLASTER

As you are aware , I did send him the APK file of RESUME BLASTER , immediately after its launch on 1st March , with a request to start pre-installing it on all Ubislate devices

Then when I raised this question with Suneet Tuli in Mumbai ( Mid April ) , he assumed that this ( pre-installing of RESUME BLASTER ) was being done

He , however asked me to follow-up directly with Amit

So , when I wrote to him , he wrote back , saying he has registered our ( RECRUITGURU ) name with Airpush.com and sent us instructions on what to do next – which you did

I presume that , since we ( RecruitGuru ), are the registered “ PUBLISHERS / DEVELOPERS “ on Airpush , the Ad Revenue will get deposited in our A/C , every week

If so , why is Amit pushing us to ,

Ø Remove integration of Resume Blaster from InMobi

Ø Re-integrate it with Airpush

before , presumably , considering pre-installing it on Ubislate – if we are not going to share Ad-Revenue with Datawind ?

In none of his earlier emails , he has ever talked about sharing Ad-revenue

In any case , we are not in any position to share our revenue with Datawind , for the simple reason that , in time to come , we will request all other Smart phone / Tablet manufacturers to pre-load Resume Blaster on their devices

Again many users will download Resume Blaster directly from our web site or from Google Play etc and install / use it

Of course , if the sole idea behind Amit pushing us to integrate Resume Blaster with Airpush is that we can make much more money , then we are happy to do so – and extremely thankful to Amit for suggesting this

While talking to him over phone , you will need to “ Uncover “ his real “ Motive “ – but in a very indirect manner !

If he gives you an impression that sharing of Ad-Revenue is what he has on his mind , then you can always tell him that you will refer the matter to HCP to respond to

We need some clarity ( as to his motive ) before committing ourselves to Airpush

I await your feedback
