Rohit / Akshay :
As we discussed other day , there are “ hard skills “ and “ soft
skills “
“ Hard Skills “ are
more tied to a given “ function “ ( eg : Sales / Production / Finance etc )
“ Soft Skills “
( such as , “ Expression / Communication “ etc ) are quite common across
the various FUNCTIONs
Although “ hard skills “
are tied to a given Function , even here these do vary , depending upon the
hierarchy ( from a “ Supervisor “ to a “ Manager “ to a “ Vice President “ of
FINANCE , these skills requirements , change )
Eg : the conceptual understanding for “ Capital Work
in Progress “ , belongs to FINANCE , but not required for an “ Accounts
Supervisor “ )
On the other hand , “ Communicating Skills “ may not
be that critical for an R&D position , as for a “ Sales or Marketing “ guy
!
Of course , I am assuming that neither of these skills
( hard or soft ) , vary much across organizations , for the same FUNCTION and
for similar Designation Level within that
function
Now, Job Descriptions invariably contain “ Keywords “
for both the kind of skills
And , if we have Job Descriptions ( for each function
) at all the levels of hierarchy , then finding / extracting such Keywords and
computing their “ frequency of occurrence “ , cannot be very difficult
We have downloaded ( 2005 – 2012 ? ) , some 2 MILLION job
advts ( RSS feeds from leading job portals ) of , may be , 50,000 companies
Then , we NORMALIZED these into a structured database
of 13 fields ! – one of which , is “ Job description “
Each advt also has fields for :
·
Function
·
Industry
·
Designation
If you need this 2 MILLION job advts for your
experimentation , just let me know
With Regards,
