Mr. Parekh - Thank you for your permission,
and especially for the photographs. Although some have technical problems, I
think we can print the picture of you, and I am delighted to have the others,
especially the pictures of the parade and Jayhawk Boulevard.
I can tell where you were standing to watch the parade. The students of today don’t make such elaborate floats as these. The building that was across the street from you burned down about 30 years ago, and unfortunately two residents were killed in that fire.
Malott Hall, Lindley Hall, the Natural History building and Spooner Hall (library) still look much the same. They all have the same purposes as when you were here, except for Spooner. It holds some anthropology specimens in the basement, which is not public, and the main floor is now a meeting space called The Commons. It is administered jointly by the art museum, the natural history museum, and the Center for the Humanities, and they present very interesting events that address broad interests.
The university is rebuilding the entire length of Jayhawk Boulevard, including underground utilities, street pavement, sidewalks, everything. This project is being carried out over four summers and we just finished the second summer, so they are half done. One of the purposes is to recreate the canopy of trees reaching across the street, as it shows in the picture you sent. That will take years, of course.
I have sent small photos of some of these places as they are now. The picture of Jayhawk Boulevard is close to the same place as in your picture but looking the opposite direction. This shows how it looks after it is rebuilt.
We very much appreciate your contribution! Thank you. I wish you all the best -

Dear Mr Higginson
Thank you for writing and apology for responding late
My poem is , in any case , dedicated to KU , whose memories , I cherish
Please feel free to re-publish ( it was first published in JayHawker magazine , in 1957 )
The reason for the delay in replying , was the few photos ( download from below link ), that I had taken of KU campus , in 1957
It took time to get these digitized from old transparencies
In one of these photos , you will find me standing in front of Campanile gate
Feel free to print any of these photos as well , if you find suitable
with regards ,

Mr. Parekh, I’m the editor of KU Giving, the donor magazine published by KU Endowment. I’ve received a copy of a poem you wrote in the mid-1950s, when you were studying mechanical engineering at KU.
I would like to propose that we publish it, but I want to ask your permission first.
For your reference, there are links below to the online versions of our two most recent issues. I am thinking of putting the poem on the inside back cover, with a nice photo of the Campanile; make it something people might clip and save.

I hope you like this idea – I think our readers would love it. All best to you.
