Dear Meera,
Thank you for writing
I have following suggestion for the re-development of port-land
:
BACKGROUND :
* Left to the corrupt politicians / bureaucrats / builders
, the land will get used to construct high-rise towers , where each flat will
get sold for crores of rupees
* Land cannot be created . Its supply is finite
* Mumbai city is terribly crowded, possibly , with lowest
per person space ( sq ft ) in the World
* SRA has failed to replace slums with livable homes for
slum-dwellers
* Slums are proliferating
* Thousands of old / dilapidated buildings are likely to
collapse over the years , with no place to go for the residents
* Fire-fighting engines cannot even approach buildings on
fire , due to narrow / congested approach roads , made worse by not having
enough space for a fire engine to go around
SOLUTION :
* Use port-land for construct low-cost houses to shift the slum-dwellers ( they will move only
if these houses are given FREE )
* In these houses , also move
residents of dilapidated buildings ( again , FREE , -
as an incentive )
* All the ground - area vacated in this way , to be used
for GARDENS / PARKS / PLAY GROUNDS , only ( open
/ green spaces )
* This will de-congest the city and make it beautiful /
livable / de-congested
regards,
hemen

Subject: Greetings of Goku Ashtami & Navroze
Dear
Hemen
Greetings of our Independence Day, Gokul Ashtami & Navroze !
It has been a while since my last update, as I have been actively working on
the commitments that I made during the 2014 Lok Sabha campaign.
You will recall that I had promised to work
on the following agenda, regardless of whether I won or lost
- Work
with citizens of Mumbai and urban planners to Reclaim for the
city of Mumbai the 770 acres of Portlands, promised in 1980,
& re-develop the Portlands in the next 5 years in a manner
that is integrated with the needs of our city
- Stop
the hazardous and toxic activities taking place in the Portlands
especially the dumping of coal and ship breaking
- Stop
the Proposed 1.2 million teu Offshore Container Terminal (OCT) that if
built will clog the city’s arteries and strangle all possibilities for
the city’s future re-development
- Help
formulate and strengthen legislation for the empowerment and safety of
women
- Support
every initiative to simplify rules, reduce red tape and rationalise
taxes so entrepreneurs and enterprise can flourish
- Support
Police reforms, Judicial reforms, and Administrative Reforms.
- Help
set up 1549 Mohalla Sabhas to empower the residents of every Polling
Booth in South Mumbai with Swaraj
My resolve to pursue the above agenda is
stronger than ever.
Along with other active citizens, young
urban planners, and architects I have already submitted substantial
proposals to the Mumbai Port Trust on the first three agenda points. I am
working towards the remaining points at every opportunity. In coming mails
I will be sharing more details.
I believe that our quest to make our city
and country a better place must be a collaborative and inclusive effort. If
you would like to join this effort please write to

with a copy to indrashilcrao@gmail.com.
with my very best wishes
