Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Competing against " Non-Consumption "

Dear Revathi

                       Competing against “ Non-Consumption “

Please look at Annex: A

You will rarely find the resumes on Naukri / Monster / Timesjobs, of the kinds of people listed in this Annex.

Nor will you find many job-advts targeted to this group, on these sites.

But, these “ Vocational Staff “ ( - the Annex covers barely 5% of the Vocational people ), make up 90% of the jobseekers !

They constitute, what C.K.Prahalad called, “The Bottom of the Pyramid”.

But, at present, they are

Non-Consumers of job-related info “(Clayton Christensen)

For them (to quote Christensen once again),

Job-sites are NOT the tools they employ to find job-related info

You may find some (0.0000001%) of these people advertising themselves in print media under “Situations Wanted “columns.

And, a few Corporate do advertise such requirements / vacancies in “Situations Available “columns of daily newspapers.

But,how many?

According to Google there are close to 30 Million SME in India, of which, Google claim that some 3 Million have registered at Google Places.

Surely each of these 30 Million SME employs at least 3/4 of the type of people listed at Annex. A

But

Ø  Newspapers carrying such Advts do not reach far corners of India

Ø  Newspapers have a shelf-life of one day

Ø  Against such advts, one can “Apply” only thru snail-mail

The entire process of

Ø  advertising vacancies

Ø  applying against these vacancies

is outdated / obsolete / inefficient.

It lacks

Ø  Richness  ( of content )

Ø  Reach      ( of the media )

Ø  Speed      ( of transactions )

But, with some 500 Million of the 650 Million mobile owners belonging to this category (Annex A), the right / most appropriate answer is a Tasklet.

Tasklet is what we are trying thru CustomizeResume, for ( may be ) 10 million professionals.

But, we know that

Ø  CustomizeResume is not specifically designed from scratch for a Tasklet

Ø  These 10 million professionals can access job-related info thru PC / Internet

If we aim to cater to 500 million people (of the type listed at Annex A ), then we need to design / develop an altogether new / vastly simple website, sharply focused on use of Tasklet.

Consider the fact that, for the type of people listed at Annex A , following info / data is irrelevant and therefore, not required to be captured :

Ø  IT  / NON- IT

Ø  Industry / Domain

Ø  Function / Skill ( Primary / Secondary / Tertiary )

Ø  Designation level

Ø  Keywords

Ø  Job Profile

Ø  Resume Title

Ø  Text resume elaborately listing previous jobs held / achievements etc.

Ø  Email ID

Ø  Graphs / Raw Scores / Percentile Scores

When was last time you asked for such details while hiring a maid-servant / driver / plumber?

If so, what personal info about themselves, will they supply on a new website, specifically designed for Tasklet ?

See  Annex. B

As an employer / service-consumer, if you were to hire (even for a specific contractual work), any such person, what info about them would you want before deciding?

I asked myself this question and prepared Annex.B. I could have missed out something.

For such people, their Vocational-Name / Trade-Name, tells us all that we need / care to know on most occasions!

Of course, in each vocation / trade, there are many nuances, which I have chosen to ignore, on purpose.

I want to keep their “ Registration Form “ so simple that

    >   It needs no ( or very little ) typing

Ø  It can be seen on a small screen of a mobile and can be filled-up using a Tasklet ( very important )

I have also broken it in 2 parts.

To entice such users, I have kept “ Registration – Basic “ very simple, asking for only essential data.

This basic data will

Ø  allow us to do “Match-making” with suitable / matching requirements posted by registering Employers.

( I do not envisage any “ job posting “ by employers on this new website. “ Employers Registration – Basic “will have fields where Employers can enter their “requirements”. In fact, “Employer Registration – Basic “, will be very similar to the “Jobseeker Registration “).

Ø  allow jobseekers to PULL alerts for “matched requirements” thru SMS

Ø  thru another SMS, allow jobseekers to indicate their availability against such requirements.

Ø  Allow employers to find “matched jobseekers” thru PULL SMS.

Of course, matchmaking will be better in cases where, both the jobseeker and the employer have submitted “Registration-Detailed”.

I also, do not envisage on this new website, following features :

Ø  Job-search

Ø  Resume search

These are getting replaced { thru Tasklet-based SMS } by :

Ø  Employer search ( anyone needing my service ? )

Ø  People search ( anyone who can provide me this service ? )

Practically, there will be no real need to “access “this website from a PC (- since there is neither a “Job-search “nor a “Resume-search “, and all input / output is thru mobiles ).

But we should still make it visible on a PC.

Reason:

Google spiders will no doubt, “crawl / index “it and display in search results against various search terms.

When visitors click on some such listing to access our site, they should be able to “view “the site and understand what it offers.

Then we would certainly like the visitors to see various site-related statistics / counters.

Of course, this is my broad concept. Lots of details will need to be worked out under your guidance.

But, for the moment, we must make a beginning with CustomizeResume.

In the meantime, I have already booked following URLs :
