Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Dear Performance Appraisers  :

In most companies , managers are required to first assess the performance of their subordinates during the course of past year – then based on that , decide annual awards ( promotions / increments / salary-freeze etc )

But in most companies , most of the subordinates believe that the managers have already decided in advance whom to promote / grant double increments etc , and then tweak the ritual of performance appraisal accordingly , in order to justify their decisions . Like first shooting and then drawing circles around the hole – a perfect bull’s eye !

If you do not believe me , get a third-party outside consultant to conduct an anonymous “ Opinion Poll “ in your company

Is there a way out of this , mostly “ Confrontational / Denial “ exercise ?

My following note ( some 43 year old ! ) addressed to the managers of L&T Switchgear Factory , might help you

RE: Message Blaster

Shivanand

I will try to explain this as follows – although , you will need to talk to Shuklendu as far as technical details are concerned

Following 3 pages are involved :

Ø Recipient  Response

Ø Unsolicited Mail Capture ( to be renamed “ Mail Holder “ , as suggested by Shuklendu )

Ø My Campaign Feedback

Below find the revised write-up of page “ Recipient Response “ ( only simple text / no database connection / no software ) .

This spells out the logic / sequence of events , underlying the Feedback concept :

Recipient  Response

Dear Marketer :

Every day , you are yourself , a recipient of may be 200 advertisement messages , appearing in Newspapers  / TV  /  Hoardings etc

How many do you respond to – even if you wish to ?

None  !

Why  ?

Because , it is just too much trouble ( even if you have time ! ), to figure out ,  “ how to reply ? “

No phone number  !  No email ID  !  No address  !

So , we made it very easy for those receiving YOUR marketing message , to be able to reply !

This is how  :

Ø   When you blast your message , recipients will receive an email which reads ,

“ There is a message in your Mail Holder box “

Ø   When that person clicks on this link , he will see a private / personal “ Mail Holder “ ( Email Box ) on our server

( We have created one for every recipient )   See “ Mail Holder “ page

Ø   In this private / personal “ Mail Holder “ Box , all the marketing messages ( including your message ) , are     listed . Recipient can view the message by clicking on the  “  Message Name “ link in the tabulation

Ø  After reading your message , if the recipient feels like contacting you , he simply selects  “ Contact Me “ radio button and clicks REPLY

Ø  This click , immediately increases the counter ( against the Marketing Message viewed / selected ) , in the “ Feedback Received “ column , on page ,

                                                 “  My Campaign Feedback

Ø  Now all you need to do , is to click on that  “  Feedback Received “ counter , and view the details [ Name / Email ID / Phone No ( ? )  ] of all the recipients who are interested to know more about your product / service !

Ø  Just follow-up before the customer changes his mind !

This closed-loop feedback is your ultimate  “  Marketing  Utopia  “  !

n   Hemen Parekh

As far as the other two pages ( Mail Holder / My Campaign Feedback ) are concerned , the tabulations remain the same ( except that , I have added Phone No of recipient in My Campaign Feedback Page )

I might want to marginally change the TEXT in these two pages , after I see the final layout , but this may take a few minutes !

If there are any non-technical questions , feel free to phone me

In the meantime , I await your PROJECT PLAN ( WHO will do WHAT and WHEN )

Hello Shivanand,

Yesterday i was unable to explain to you the concept behind ‘Unsolicited Mail Capture’ and ‘Response’ pages. Today i discuss these with HCP Sir and he has explained the concept to me.

I was trying to write this explanation and send it to me, but it is bit involved. It will be better if we discuss this either in person or on phone. Please call me either tomorrow 2nd half or on Saturday, whenever you are free and i will explain it to you.

This will not affect the pages till ‘Mailing List – Message Pairing’. But, please call me before you start coding for actual blasting (sending mail) of messages.

Regards
Shuklendu Baji

My dear Vijay!

Thanks for confirming that you would host the next G-2-G:
- on Sunday the 25th August, 2013
- at Noon
- at Venue to be decided by you in due course
You raised some doubts about round 3 of G2G. I enclose herewith details of
Round 1, 2 & 3. Round 2 ended in July 2012 & Round 3 started in Sep. 2012.
We are not sticking to any rigid time-table. In every meeting some hosts approach
me to host the next G2G & we finalize the host based on individual's convenience /request.  Hence you would notice that there is some method in madness.
You may also note that members find it difficult to travel on Saturday evening due to
heavy traffic. So on experimental basis we have kept a few G2Gs on Sunday noon and will take a final decision after a few G2Gs whether to revert back to Saturday evening.

I suggest let us continue to be flexible and decide date/venue/time/turn based on the convenience of majority of the members.
With warm regards.

B2B / B2C

Dear Damahe

When he was at Sentient Systems , Shivanand spoke to me yesterday afternoon
He had a detailed discussion with Shuklendu / Nitin / Rahul , re logic to be employed while constructing different pages of web sites
They even managed to create some additional database tables
Shivanand confirmed that , with the clarifications obtained , students should face no difficulty in completing the project by Sept End
This is , indeed , encouraging !
It is further encouraging that Shuklendu has agreed to make available for consultations ,services of his colleague , Rahul Ahire  , for 2 days every week , till the project gets completed
For such consultations , either Shivanand / Shashank may phone Rahul or visit Sentient office , after prior appointment
As suggested by you earlier , it is also possible for Rahul to visit LTIT premises and guide the students , when they are free ( eg. Saturday / Sunday ) for full day , without interruption
You may work this out with Shuklendu
What is most important is to ensure that the TARGET DATE of end Sept is met at all cost !
I have no doubt that , how the students – and the guides – come up to this challenge , will lay the foundation of their confidence to tackle similar assignments when they take up their first jobs
I now look forward to receive from you, a detailed PROJECT PLAN , which , Shivanand promised to prepare and hand-over to you , before lunch today
Regards
